Traveling with Cloth Diapers

Traveling with cloth diapers? We can help with that too!

Would you like to pack cloth diapers for both short and long trips? Or are you true globetrotters who spend very little time at home? Read through this article; we have a cloth diaper solution for every situation!

  1. You might be surprised by the first practical solution! Perhaps you only use cloth diapers at home, and when you head out, you simply pack a few eco-friendly disposable diapers.

Don’t beat yourself up if this is the method you prefer. Instead, consider how much you’re already doing for the environment, your baby, and your wallet just by using cloth diapers at home!

Many people decide to use cloth diapers everywhere, all the time – and this is also a great solution. This way, you can enjoy the benefits of cloth diapers to the fullest.

Think about it: whenever you head out with your baby, you essentially pack half the world, and you’re loaded down with bags – sound familiar?

Honestly, if you leave home with cloth diapers, you won’t be packing *that* much more than you’d think… 😊

After all, you’d be bringing diapers with you anyway, wouldn’t you?

Practically, you’ll only need your pre-prepped diapers and an additional PUL wet bag. There are even dual-pocket ones available, where you can put clean diapers in one compartment and dirty ones in the other. What’s more, a good changing bag can also work for this; in that case, just add a small PUL wet bag.

This is essential because it’s made from the same waterproof yet breathable material as the cloth diaper cover itself. This means it won’t leak any moisture or odor, so nothing will stink up your bag. At the same time, it prevents the diapers from getting musty.

But we have a trick up our sleeve for how you can reduce your load even further:

if you use a disposable liner with your cloth diaper cover – with this convenient solution, you simply toss the liner in the trash and place the cover in your wet bag until you get home.

Things you absolutely shouldn’t leave at home:

baby wipes,

– changing pad,

– wet bag for dirty diapers,

– a change of clothes – because Murphy’s Law applies: if you bring it, you definitely won’t need it, but if you don’t, a small accident is guaranteed to happen! 😀

– and the usual essentials: drinks, snacks (if needed), pacifier, anything else you might require – the list can be expanded as you wish…

WHAT IF I GO AWAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS?

Summer is approaching, and you’re probably already busy planning your vacation. But what about diapers?

Don’t worry, you have several solutions to choose from!

1. You bring disposable diapers – after all, you’re on vacation too, and you don’t want to spend your days off scrubbing. This is a completely valid point, and if you’d still like a more eco-friendly option during this time, we can suggest a solution: you can confidently choose from Moltex diapers for this period.

2. You plan to use cloth diapers exclusively – in this case, definitely consider these points, and perhaps ask your accommodation provider:

– is there a washing machine at the accommodation?

– can you hang laundry to dry, is there a drying rack?

If you’re only going for 2-3 days, the diapers might even wait in the wet bag until you get home, and you can wash them then. You’ll just need to treat any remaining poop stains somehow, because, well, you know… 😊 So, perhaps a separate small bucket, some percarbonate, or gall soap, and then add the pre-treated diapers to your laundry.

However, if you’re planning a longer trip and don’t want to forgo cloth diapers during that time, pack diapers that dry quickly for the first few days. For example, flats – we highly recommend these because their material isn’t delicate, you can quickly hand wash them, and they’ll dry in just a few hours when hung in the sun. And here’s a trick: if a dried diaper feels too stiff, rub it together, and it will soften up again, making it comfortable for your baby.

On the last 1-2 days of your trip, feel free to collect dirty diapers just as you would at home before washing.

If you have many diapers, on the day before your trip, use up your less preferred ones, and after a quick wash, hang them to dry before you leave. You can wash them properly when you get home, but this way they won’t stink or get moldy in the meantime…

+ a trick: when you leave, you can also put your pre-prepped diapers into a thoroughly rinsed and cleaned diaper pail, which will save significant space in your car’s trunk. ATTENTION! Always have a change of diapers and a change of clothes readily accessible! Because if you don’t, it’s absolutely certain you’ll need them exactly then, and the diapers will obviously be at the very bottom of the trunk…. You can guess how we know this, right…? 😂
